《东北剿匪记》，以剿灭张东山、许大雷、郑三炮，驼娘等“四大旗杆”的历史事件为背景，力求艺术性地展现这一伟大斗争中的一个侧面。该剧塑造了杨剑锋、白云、小山东、吴慎之、李大伟等一大批为了人民的利益，不怕牺牲，顽强奋斗的共产党人的光辉形象；也塑造了被逼为匪的丹娘、傻豹、常天恩、芍药等一批自我救赎，从痴迷到觉醒的中间人物形象；以及张东山、曾天养、郑三炮、冯奎、蛮龙、刘黑子等狡诈凶残，性格各异的土匪头子形象。
